Rachel Barbera is an abstract expressionist painter based in Central Oregon.

Her work explores the tension between movement and stillness, free-flowing spaciousness and grounded structure. The paintings range from raw, washy and transparent to dense, textured colorscapes with layers of highly saturated oil paint.

Barbera’s process is physical and decisive, gestural, kinesthetic, and loosely inspired by landscape.

She’s interested in creating work that feels both vibrant and restful, inviting the viewer to lean closer… to color, to light, to possibility and life, all of it.
